The senior midfielder from Wyck-off started 17 games his sophomore year and eitrht last It seems unfathomable to win four national crowns in four years of college. But that's exactly what last year's senior class at Virginia achieved. And the Cavaliers, ranked first nationally (15-0-1), are showing no signs of slowing down.
"Like in years past, we have great chemistry," Fitzmaurice said. "A lot of people didn't think we'd be able to score a lot of goals. We're more technical We knock the ball around better. A bunch of guys are scoring. Last year we were more dependent on since-graduated A.J.
Wood and Nate Friends." Fitzmaurice has four assists, including a cross to Mike Fisher that gave Virginia a 2-1 overtime victory over Clemson. His post-graduation future is a little unclear. "Hopefully I know enough people in this world to get a job," Fitzmaurice said. He's thinking about going into coaching and will probably come back home. ter Jana Hubner was named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Volleyball Co-Player of the Week.
Sophomore forward Nicole Tracey earned the women's soccer award. Sophomore forward Tony Cer-vone of Montclair State shared the New Jersey Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Player of the Week honors with Luis Pinto of Rutgers-Newark. Jersey City State's Elkin Alzate of Ridgefield made the honor roll. Jamie Levine of Upper Saddle River, a sophomore- at Skidmore, successfully defended her New York State Division III collegiate singles title Monica Yurman of Waldwick is a sophomore at Flagler in St. Augustine, Fla.
She plays second singles and first doubles. Mary Ann Wolf, a 1993 River Dell graduate, plays Softball for Villanova. She's spending the semester abroad at the University of Westminster, and she's playing goalkeeper for the soccer team there. And at some point, hell sit down and reflect on his team's success. "I really don't have time now," Fitzmaurice said.
"I'm sure maybe a few years down the road IH think about it" Right now, though, he's thinking only about winning the next game. Fairleigh Dickinson coach Ira MiLer was named the Northeast Conference's Women's Tennis Coach of the Year after leading the Knights to a second-place finish. In NEC volleyball, Lakeland High graduate Stephanie Van Loon of Rider won her third Newcomer of the Week award. Columbia midfielder Rino Ma-tarazzo of Fair Lawn won the Ivy League's men's soccer Rookie of the Week honors. Princeton freshman Chris Halupka made the honor roll.

Lino Leltao registered his eighth shutout with four saves. The Blue Tide's next opponent will be third-seeded Newton. Lyndhurst's David Deesus and Dumont's Mike Aldemlr scored two goals each in the first half and that was all the scoring In regulation. Lyndhurst then outscored the Huskies, 3-2, in penalty kicks for a 3-2 victory. The deciding kick was made by Claudlo Mortello.
DeJesus now has 14 goals while Aldemir leads Bergen County with 37. NJSIAA Group 3 Eleventh-seeded Ramapo surprised sixth-seeded Pascack Valley, 1-0, on Adam Brenner's goal with 15 minutes to play for its fifth straight win. NJSIAA Group 4 Jim Flynn scored with 30 seconds left in the opening half and West Mllford hung on for a 1-0 win over Union Hill. Brad Callahan, who missed the first six games of the season because of an injury, turned back five shots for the shutout.
