Oct' 24 marks three years since we started building Monk full-time, and now I'm excited to announce the launch of our second app—Upro! (pronounced ‘you-pro’)What is Upro?It's a Shopify app that let's wholesale & B2B buyers place their orders simply by uploading a CSV file of the desired products/variants and their quantitiesWhy Upro?We started off with a very simple question - How do we simplify the ordering process on B2B (and as a result improve CVR)? After months of research, prototyping and conversations we realized that B2B buyers purchase in bulk with orders having >50 quantities across multiple different products and variants. This inherently makes B2B buying complex with buyers jumping from one pdp to another and figuring the exact quantities required for each variant. This also sometimes need intervention from a sales or customer success rep.Upro is our attempt at solving this problem - buyers simply download the product catalog, input their quantities for specific products and upload it back. The app will automatically create the order and re-direct them to checkout.Why B2B? B2B commerce is where DTC was in 2016 and Shopify is at the forefront of it. IMO this is the next big frontier in ecommerce and could just be the pathway to Shopify becoming a trillion dollar company by 2030. Huge shoutout to our entire team that managed to take this from a figma prototype to a live app in <45 days!If you know any brands on Shopify B2B that might be interested, share this with them!

    It was great to be in Toronto last month for Shopify's first developer-only conference. While there were over 150 features released, there are some overall trends and a few things that really stand out. Here's my quick rundown...First, there's a clear focus on expanding markets, with many of the features oriented towards content localization and advanced features for selling internationally. Adjacent to that, there are several new scale-oriented B2B features like more catalog capabilities, raised company profile member limits, and better support for Net10/30/etc terms.Second, there are some significant advancements in shipping, with split shipments on offer (finally!) for the first time, so that customers can choose to consolidate or separately expedite items coming from multiple locations, each with their own costs. This may also have implications down the line for use cases like gifting, though for now it is contingent on your actual inventory locations being different.Third, Shopify released developer and theme tools for increased placements for blocks, allowing additional extensibility in themes, app ecosystems, and checkouts -- all of which our dev team will plan to utilize in the months to come. Shopify also bought theCheckout Blocks appwhich is now free to Plus stores for the basic plan.     Shopify's CVR outpaces other ecommerce platforms byup to 36%. I'm predicting that their latest acquisition is going to push this even higher. #Shopify acquired Checkout Blocks - letting brands on Shopify Plus make their checkout pages work harder. These are normally cart-based strategies, but since customers drop off at every step in the purchase flow, it's going to be really interesting to have these tools to use at that last step.     Last month Shopify dropped their latest product updates as a part of Summer Editions '24 under the theme UNIFIED. It's one of the strongest editions drop I've seen yet.BACKGROUNDI've been a part of the Shopify ecosystem for ~3 years with my app Monk and every 6 months Shopify consolidates all their product updates and drops them as a part of Summer/Winter Editions with each having a common theme. Summer Editions '24 is probably the strongest update I've seen since becoming a part of the ecosystem.This version consists of 177 updates, here are 3 that stood out the most:1. Split shipping is now available in checkout - customers can choose to split their order and recieve it as multiple shipments with different delivery estimates. This can help reduce cart -> checkout drop offs if some products are on pre-order/subscription or from different locations etc and need a different delivery timeline from the others. Currently in early access, general availability is expected by Q4 2024 before BFCM 2. Shopify Markets can now be accessed directly via the left hand side column of the admin panel and has undergone a UX overhaul. A major investor pitch of Shopify is to make it easy for enterprise brands to sell internationally and make Markets a core reason for why they'd migrate onto the platform. I expect constant investment by their product leadership in this direction.3. A new free theme 'Trade' has been launched specifically designed for merchants selling B2B - it's particularly designed to address B2B centric buying cases like bulk & repeat purchasing. Any merchant using Shopify B2B should definitely give this a go in an unpublished theme and compare it to their current one.
